Ukraine War: Drones Account for 70-80% of Casualties, Report Says

A new report by the Constitutional Protection Service of Latvia (SAB) reveals that drones are responsible for 70-80% of casualties in the war in Ukraine. The report states that the widespread use of drones makes the war more dynamic at the tactical level, but reduces the chances of a strategic turning point. According to the report, Russia plans to build a drone production plant in neighboring Belarus, with an annual capacity of up to 100,000 unmanned aircraft, which would significantly strengthen its capabilities. While drones have played a crucial role since the beginning of the war, analysis by the Atlantic Council shows that since the end of 2024, the balance has begun to shift in favor of Russia, which has adapted more quickly to the technology and tactics of its use. The report also refers to incidents of drone interference and intrusions near critical infrastructure in European countries, emphasizing that these have reinforced the sense of insecurity and revealed vulnerabilities in European defense.
