Two Arrested in Strovolos Following Discovery of Large Drug Haul

The Nicosia District Court has issued an eight-day detention order for two individuals, aged 34 and 26, who were arrested in Strovolos in connection with the case of discovering large quantities of cocaine and cannabis. The charges include illegal possession of narcotics for supply, illegal possession of explosives and firearms, obstructing the fight against money laundering, and conspiracy to commit a felony. Police are in the early stages of the investigation and will take statements from 22 people, including relatives, friends, and neighbors of the suspects. Closed-circuit surveillance is also being examined, and results are expected from the analysis of telephone data and bank details. According to the testimony of a narcotics police officer, police had information about drug trafficking by the two suspects. They monitored the vehicle of the first suspect, who was heading to the home of the second, where together with an unknown man they loaded five cardboard boxes into the vehicle. During the check, 11,480 firecrackers were found. Searches of the suspects' homes resulted in the seizure of 62 kilograms of cocaine, 167 kilograms of cannabis, 14 kilograms of cannabis resin, pistols, revolvers, and a replica pistol, as well as other illegal items. The case is under investigation and is expected to reveal more details about the drug trafficking network.
