Cran Montana Fire: Bar Owner Released

Jacques Moretti, co-owner of the Le Constellation bar in Crans Montana, has been released from pre-trial detention after paying a bail of 200,000 Swiss francs. Restrictive measures remain in place, such as a ban on leaving Switzerland and a requirement to report daily to a police station. Moretti's release was made in respect of the presumption of innocence, as Swiss law provides for the freedom of the accused until trial. The investigation into the fire, which caused the deaths of 40 people and injured 116, continues, with the aim of revealing the exact circumstances, compliance with regulations, and responsibilities. The fire was caused by sparks from indoor fireworks that ignited the soundproofing foam. The community of Crans Montana admits the failure of safety checks on the building since 2019.
