President of Cyprus Vows to Combat Price Gouging Amidst War-Related Increases

The President of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, assured that the government will not tolerate price gouging in relation to price increases caused by the war in the region. The statement was made during a visit to communities in the mountainous region of Limassol, where the President emphasized that the government is monitoring developments and has already taken measures, such as zero VAT on certain products and electricity subsidies. The issue will be discussed in detail at the Council of Ministers on Monday. Furthermore, the President announced that he will travel to Brussels next week for meetings with the President of the European Commission and other officials. Discussions will include issues such as livestock farming and tourism, as well as the resumption of negotiations on the Cyprus issue. The President expressed his satisfaction with the organization of the European Throwing Cup in Cyprus, with the participation of more than 400 foreign athletes, emphasizing that Cyprus is part of the geography of the region, but not part of the war. Finally, referring to the scheduled meeting with the Secretary-General of the United Nations, the President stated that the goal is the immediate resumption of talks, based on a letter he has already sent with specific proposals. The EU has expressed its readiness to strengthen the effort to resume negotiations.
