Independent MP Discusses Cooperation with ALMA Movement

Independent MP Irene Charalambidou met with the Secretariat of the ALMA Movement to discuss potential cooperation in the upcoming parliamentary elections. The meeting took place in a positive atmosphere, with Ms. Charalambidou seeking a collaboration that would ensure her independence. If an agreement is reached, she will run for a seat in the Nicosia district on the ALMA ballot. However, the ALMA Statute stipulates that members must register within 15 days of election, which Ms. Charalambidou may not desire. A source within ALMA stated that the Executive Secretariat has the power to amend the Statute. To date, ALMA has announced 30 parliamentary candidates and is expected to announce another ten next week. This development suggests an effort by ALMA to broaden its electoral base, while Ms. Charalambidou is seeking a way to maintain her independence while participating in a wider political formation.
