President Christodoulides: Erhurman Should Publicly State Support for Two-State Solution

President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, stated that the Government remains steadfast in its efforts to restart negotiations on the Cyprus issue, despite challenges such as the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the European Union and the upcoming Parliamentary Elections. The President commented on the statements of the Turkish Cypriot leader, emphasizing that if Turkey's position is a two-state solution, Mr. Erhurman should announce it publicly. He recalled the commitment to a bi-zonal, bi-communal federation, as defined by UN Security Council resolutions, and expressed his readiness for an expanded conference. At the same time, he referred to ongoing contacts with the UN and the EU, confirming that he is not being diverted from the goal of restarting negotiations from Kran Montana. Finally, he commented on the statements of the UN Secretary-General's Spokesperson, confirming the continuation of contacts until June.
