Η ασφάλεια της Κύπρου είναι συλλογική ευθύνη της Ευρωπαϊκής Ενωσης, δήλωσε τη Δευτέρα το πρωί ο Πρόεδρος της Δημοκρατίας, Νίκος Χριστοδουλίδης, λέγοντας ότι αυτό είναι το σημαντικότερο μήνυμα που στέλνει η επίσκεψη των ηγετών της Ελλάδας και της Γαλλίας στην Κύπρο.
Κληθείς από δημοσιογράφους, κατά την προσέλευσή του στο Παγκύπριο Λύκειο Λάρνακας για να παραστεί σε εκδήλωση, να σχολιάσει την επίσκεψη του Πρωθυπουργού της Ελλάδας, Κυριάκου Μητσοτάκη, και του Προέδρου της Γαλλίας, Εμμανουέλ Μακρόν, τη Δευτέρα στο νησί, ο Πρόεδρος Χριστοδουλίδης είπε ότι “είναι σημαντική η επίσκεψη, μία επίσκεψη που το σημαντικότερο μήνυμα που δίνει είναι ότι η ασφάλεια της Κύπρου είναι ευθύνη και της Ευρώπης, είναι συλλογική ευθύνη της Ευρωπαϊκής Ενωσης”.
Πρόσθεσε ότι “από τη στιγμή που έχουμε αυτή την ανταπόκριση από πλευράς των κρατών μελών της ΕΕ, που θέλω και δημόσια να τους ευχαριστήσω για την άμεση ανταπόκριση, ανοίγει τον δρόμο στην ΕΕ να αποδείξει στην πράξη με τέτοιες ενέργειες όπως βλέπουμε στην Κύπρο την ανάγκη να αναλάβει την υπεράσπιση των συνόρων της ΕΕ, και θεωρώ ιδιαίτερα σημαντικό την παρουσία τόσο πολλών ευρωπαϊκών κρατών στη χώρα μας”.
Ερωτηθείς εάν είμαστε ικανοποιημένοι από την παρουσία της ΕΕ, είπε ότι πρώτη φορά βλέπουμε τέτοια ανταπόκριση και θεωρώ ιδιαίτερα σημαντικό το γεγονός αυτό.
Εξάλλου, κληθείς να σχολιάσει δημοσίευμα λιβανέζικυ μέσού ενημέρωσης, σύμφωνα με το οποίο ενδεχομένως να υπάρξουν απευθείας συνομιλίες μεταξύ του Λιβάνου και του Ισραήλ στην Κύπρο, ο Πρόεδρος είπε ότι μίλησε σήμερα το πρωί με τον Πρόεδρο του Λιβάνου, προσθέτοντας ότι “όταν υπάρχει κάτι συγκεκριμένο πολύ ευχαρίστως δημόσια, όπως κάνουμε πάντα, με διαφάνεια, θα προχωρήσουμε σε σχετική ανακοίνωση”.
