President of the Republic: Argument for Not Holding Expanded Conference on Cyprus Due to Elections and EU Presidency is Ridiculous

The President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, expressed his readiness to participate immediately in an expanded conference on the Cyprus issue, calling ridiculous the arguments invoking parliamentary elections and Cyprus's Presidency of the Council of the EU as obstacles. He stressed that the Greek Cypriot side is ready to start negotiations from where they left off in Crans Montana, with full respect for the negotiating record. Referring to the roadblocks, President Christodoulides said that the Republic of Cyprus was ready to widen the Agios Dometios road, but there was a negative response from the Turkish Cypriot side. He expressed hope that next week would be the right time to announce the resumption of negotiations in New York. President Christodoulides rejected the view that the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU and the parliamentary elections hinder the holding of a conference, emphasizing that he is ready to travel to New York next week, provided there is a corresponding will from the Turkish and Turkish Cypriot sides.
