Cyprus Parliament President: Resolving the Cyprus Issue Remains Top Priority

The President of the House of Representatives, Annita Demetriou, stated that resolving the Cyprus issue remains the top priority, while emphasizing that the search for the fate of missing persons and the pursuit of justice for the crimes of the invasion remain non-negotiable priorities. Her statements were made at a national memorial service for the heroes Michalakos and Andreas Makridis from Lefkoniko. Ms. Demetriou stressed that the Turkish invasion of 1974 constitutes the deepest wound in the history of the Republic of Cyprus, causing incalculable losses and displacement. She expressed her sympathy to the families of the missing persons, emphasizing the need to ascertain the truth and exert pressure on Turkey. The President of the House reiterated Cyprus' commitment to finding a comprehensive, sustainable, and just solution to the Cyprus problem, which will end the occupation, ensure the unity and territorial integrity of the island, and guarantee the human rights of all residents. She emphasized that the sacrifice of the heroes is a legacy for future generations, reminding everyone of their responsibility to achieve peace, liberation, and the reunification of Cyprus.
