Paphos Leads in Violations of Turkish Cypriot Property Leases

An investigation by the Ministry of Interior regarding the possession and use of Turkish Cypriot properties reveals that Paphos leads in violations of lease agreements. Specifically, out of 31 violations recorded island-wide, 18 concern the Municipality of Paphos, while out of 47 violations in communities, 33 were found in communities of the Paphos district. The investigation, which was comprehensive and not sample-based, shed light on all aspects of the case. The Ministry of Interior has begun addressing the issue since 2024, however, the situation in Paphos remains worrying. The investigation concerns properties leased to municipalities and communities and reveals violations of lease agreements. The violations mainly concern the illegal use of Turkish Cypriot properties and non-compliance with the terms of the contracts. The Ministry of Interior is expected to take measures to restore legality and protect Turkish Cypriot properties. The case highlights the need for stricter control and supervision of the use of Turkish Cypriot properties.
