Proposals for Integrating Artificial Intelligence into the Education System

The Parliamentary Committee on Education was informed about the initiative of the Cypriot Academy of Sciences, Letters and Arts to promote reading and the proper use of new technologies and artificial intelligence in education. The initiative arose after consultation with the Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth. The Academy plans to hold a seminar in September on the impact of new technologies on children, with the aim of preparing a working document with specific policy recommendations to maintain reading. It is also planned to establish an ad hoc committee to implement the recommendations. Representatives of the Deputy Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy and the Pan-Cypriot Confederation of Federations of Associations of Parents and Guardians of Public and Community Kindergartens welcomed the initiative, emphasizing the importance of ethical and pedagogically correct use of artificial intelligence and the targeted use of new technologies by teachers. The Minister of Education, Sports and Youth, Athena Michaelidou, stated that the Ministry has already developed a strategy for the use of new technologies in schools and has established a committee of experts on the subject. It also participates in pilot applications at European level and monitors the issue of artificial intelligence.
