Corruption Authority Refers MEP Feidias' Case to European Prosecutor's Office

The Anti-Corruption Authority has referred the case of MEP Feidias to the European Prosecutor's Office, as it lacked jurisdiction to investigate. The Authority received complaints two months ago and found that there were issues, beyond the rental of a luxury villa in Limassol with European funds. According to a legal source, the online application operated by Feidias is presented as a tool for "European participation", but is used for registration, voting, or selecting representatives of a national political party in Cyprus. This is considered a clear conflict of interest, as an MEP cannot simultaneously be the owner or manager of such an application and the Data Protection Officer. Furthermore, the use of the resources and prestige of the European Parliament for national electoral or party procedures is prohibited. OLAF has clarified that the structures and resources of the EP should not be used for national politics. Finally, presenting Feidias as the Data Protection Officer in a private or party application is considered misleading.
