Investigation into Turkish Cypriot Property Leases in Paphos to be Completed Before March 25th

The Turkish Cypriot Property Management Service is expected to complete its investigation into cases of leasing Turkish Cypriot properties in the Municipality of Paphos before March 25th. The findings will be submitted to the Minister of Interior, Konstantinos Ioannou, within two weeks. The investigations concern four to five files, which were checked for irregularities in the leases. According to information, no irregularities were found in most cases, except for instances where there was a change in the purpose of use of the properties. In some cases, properties granted for a specific purpose, such as the creation of a green space, were used for other purposes, such as a parking lot. However, no profit-making purpose has been identified in the grants. Four to five additional cases remain under investigation by the Ministry of Interior, following complaints. These investigations are expected to be completed within March, and so far it appears that legal procedures have been followed in most cases. These files concern cases where the properties were claimed by refugees, but the competent Committee deemed that granting them to the Municipality was more beneficial. Checks on these specific cases had been carried out in the past, without reaching definitive conclusions. The Turkish Cypriot Property Management Service is examining each case in detail, in order to formulate its final findings. At the same time, the case of the assault on the wife of the suspended Mayor of Paphos has not progressed due to lack of evidence.
