Dust Wave 'Smothered' Cyprus - New Disturbance on the Horizon

The Cyprus Meteorological Department reports that the recent dust wave was particularly severe, with concentrations in Paphos reaching 750 micrograms per cubic meter, fifteen times the permissible limit of 50 micrograms. The phenomenon was caused by barometric disturbances that lifted large amounts of dust from Libya and transported it to Cyprus. According to the Meteorological Department, such episodes are becoming increasingly frequent in the Eastern Mediterranean. A correlation has also been observed between dust and severe hail phenomena, as dust acts as a condensation nucleus in the atmosphere. During last night, heavy thunderstorms occurred throughout Cyprus, with significant rainfall and localized hailstorms. The temperature remains at normal levels for the season, around 15-16 degrees Celsius inland and 16-17 degrees Celsius on the coast. A slight rise in temperature is expected in the coming days, but it will not deviate from the average climatic levels.
