Cyprus President Meets with UN Secretary-General's Special Envoy

The President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, met today with the UN Secretary-General's Special Envoy for Cyprus, Maria Angela Holguin. During the meeting, the President was briefed on Ms. Holguin's contacts and presented his approach to restarting negotiations, based on the achievements of the previous process. This discussion is expected to continue tomorrow in a joint meeting with Turkish Cypriot leader Erhurman, where the President will present his proposal in more detail. The Government Spokesman emphasized the need to resume negotiations from the point where they were interrupted in Crans Montana, in accordance with UN Security Council resolutions. Despite reports of the UN approaching Mr. Erhurman's methodology, the Spokesman reiterated the President's clear position regarding his proposals, emphasizing the need for genuine political will and the resumption of negotiations.
