Luxury Furniture, Lavish Trips, Accidental Funding: Audit Report 'Burns' Parliament

The Audit Office has published a report revealing several irregularities in the spending of the House of Representatives for 2023. The findings include direct assignment for the purchase of furniture worth €77,500 without a tender, as well as a conflict of interest, as the architect who proposed the purchase is the director of the company that carried it out. In addition, the purchase of air conditioners (€60,620) was made using abbreviated procedures that violate the law, while their installation preceded the securing of the necessary funds. The report also states that the accompaniment of the President of the Parliament on a trip to London cost €15,172, exceeding the limits stipulated in the “Handbook for Official Foreign Travel”. Furthermore, it was found that €100,000 was paid to parliamentary parties from a fund intended for conferences and missions abroad, which is considered illegal. The report also points out that this money should have come from a grant fund, and that there are no criteria for its distribution. Finally, a lack of asset register and physical inventory was found, contrary to current regulations. The Audit Office calls for accountability for the irregularities found.
