Who is Juan Carlos, the 41-Year-Old Allegedly Set to Succeed 'El Mencho' at the Jalisco Cartel?

Following the death of Nemesio Oseguera, known as 'El Mencho,' leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), a wave of violence erupted in 20 states of Mexico, with at least 60 dead. The operation that led to 'El Mencho's' death took place in a luxury residential area in Jalisco, while the government announced that the security situation has stabilized. Juan Carlos Valencia González, 41, is considered the main candidate to succeed 'El Mencho' in the leadership of the cartel. He is 'El Mencho's' stepson, and his mother, Rosalinda “La Jefa” González Valencia, played a significant role in the cartel's finances. Juan Carlos is also known by the nicknames El Pelón, Triki Tres, and O3. Juan Carlos has dual American and Mexican citizenship, as he was born in California in 1984. The US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) accused him in 2020 of producing and selling drugs, as well as violent crimes. The US has offered five million dollars for information leading to his arrest. The rise of Juan Carlos to the leadership of the cartel could lead to a further escalation of violence in Mexico, as rival gangs will try to exploit the power vacuum. The Mexican government faces a huge challenge in its effort to restore order and combat crime.
