Who Was General Naiini, the 'Voice' of the Revolutionary Guards?

Ali Mohammad Naiini, a spokesperson for Iran's Revolutionary Guards, has died in a “terrorist attack” according to Iranian authorities. Naiini, who served as a spokesperson since July 2024, had dedicated over four decades to the Islamic Revolution. According to the Revolutionary Guards, the attack was described as a “cowardly American-Zionist” one and took place in the early hours of Friday, the last day of Ramadan. Naiini had close ties with Imam Hussein University, the academic center of the Revolutionary Guards. Following the start of the war between Israel and the US against Iran, Naiini had taken on the task of presenting Tehran's position that it could withstand a prolonged conflict. He argued that Iran's capabilities in missiles and drones remain capable of retaliation, even after strikes, and warned of similar attacks on American and Israeli targets in the event of strikes on energy infrastructure or political targets. The death of Naiini is considered a significant loss for the Iranian regime, as he was a key 'voice' of the Revolutionary Guards. This loss creates a communication gap at a critical time, as Tehran tries to maintain the morale of its population and control the narrative of the war.
