Cyprus Suffocates in Dust – Paphos at 'Red' Alert

High concentrations of dust were recorded in the atmosphere across Cyprus today, with Paphos and Agia Marina Xyliato at 'red' alert levels. Measurements from the Labour Inspection Department at 12:00 showed the following values: Nicosia 91.8 μg/m3, Limassol 191.1 μg/m3, Larnaca 69.6 μg/m3, Paralimni 74.7 μg/m3, Paphos 750.7 μg/m3, Zygi 137.1 μg/m3, Agia Marina Xyliato 519.2 μg/m3. The Department advises the public, especially vulnerable groups, to avoid outdoor activities until the phenomenon subsides. The dust originates from disturbances in North Africa that lift dust and transport it to Cyprus. High concentrations are also expected in the coming days.
