Cyprus Suffocates Under African Dust – Peak Expected Tonight in Limassol

Cyprus is experiencing high levels of African dust, with the Eratosthenes Centre recording record-breaking concentrations. The phenomenon began several days ago and is expected to peak tonight in Limassol, with dust levels reaching 500 μgr/m^3 near the ground – ten times the limits set by the Labour Inspection Department. Visibility has been reduced to below 2 km at an altitude of 1 km. A gradual decrease in dust is expected on Thursday morning, but there is a possibility of it reappearing in the evening. Rainfall is also forecast, which will help the dust settle on the ground.
