The President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, announced that a proposal will be submitted to the Council of Ministers for full coverage of healthcare for Maronites resettled in the occupied territories through the General Healthcare System (GeSY). This proposal is part of the government's broader effort to improve the quality of life of enclaved and resettled compatriots. The President Christodoulides made the announcement during the celebratory commemoration of Saint Maron in Nicosia, emphasizing the importance of the Maronite community to Cyprus and its contribution to the survival and prosperity of the country. In his address, the President referred to the particular situation of the Maronites, as 14 of their villages are under Turkish occupation, and assured that the issues of the enclaved are high on the agenda of his meetings with international leaders, including the UN Secretary-General and the leader of the Turkish Cypriot community. The government, according to the President, is constantly working to deepen cooperation with the Maronite community and its Church, through specific actions and policies, with the aim of improving the quality of life of Maronites in both the free areas and the occupied territories.
