PEO: Trade Unions Excluded from Presidential Tourism Meeting

The PEO expressed its disappointment over the exclusion of trade unions from the tourism meeting held at the Presidential Palace. Neofytos Timinis, General Secretary of the PEO Hotel Employees' Union, stated that the union will evaluate the data and awaits information from the Presidential Palace regarding the decisions made. He emphasized the importance of avoiding burdening workers with the current crisis and highlighted the sensitivity of the tourism sector, calling on the state to take measures to reverse the downward trend in bookings. Mr. Timinis expressed concern about potential panic but stressed the need for calm and action from the state. The union seeks to ensure that workers do not pay the price of the economic crisis and that the tourism sector receives the necessary support to remain viable. The PEO believes that the participation of trade unions in the discussion on tourism is essential, as they represent the workers in the sector and can contribute to finding effective solutions. Their absence from the meeting at the Presidential Palace is considered a lack of respect for workers and their needs. The union expects to be informed about the decisions made at the meeting and to participate in the decision-making process for the future of tourism in Cyprus.
