Five-Day Detention for Suspect in 2024 Larnaaca Robbery

The District Court of Famagusta has issued a five-day detention order for a 31-year-old suspect linked to a robbery that took place in Larnaaca in 2024. This is the sixth arrest in the case. Five individuals, aged 43, 42, 41, 29, and 27, have already been referred to trial for the case, with the latter four being sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of Dimitris Andronikou. The robbery was reported on February 19, 2024, by the businessman's wife, who, along with her domestic helpers, experienced terrifying moments when four masked individuals broke into their home and threatened them with garden shears. The perpetrators stole jewelry and cash worth €188,000 from the safe. Police, through the analysis of CCTV footage, determined that the perpetrators were five and were using a stolen vehicle found abandoned in the bed of the Germasogeia River. One of the stolen watches was later found in a jewelry store in Lebanon, where it had been sold by individuals who contacted from Cyprus. A 41-year-old from Syria was arrested on March 14, 2024, as a suspect for making phone calls to Lebanon from Cyprus, while a few days later, a 30-year-old was also arrested who admitted to selling two stolen rings to a jewelry store in Nicosia. The 41-year-old, who was also involved in the Andronikou murder, named the other three convicted individuals.
