PASYXE: Encouraging Bookings for Clean Monday Weekend

The Director of PASYXE, Christos Angelidis, stated that bookings for the Clean Monday weekend are as encouraging as those of the previous weekend. The good weather and children's carnival parades contributed to the increase in overnight stays in all cities. However, Mr. Angelidis stressed the need to extend the tourist season, as bookings of 25%-30% are not satisfactory. Referring to the movement in hotels so far, Mr. Angelidis noted that time and patience are required for people to get used to the opportunities offered by Cyprus for parties, conferences and large events. He observed an increase in flights to Cyprus from countries such as Armenia, Romania, Bulgaria, Latvia and Poland, as well as a steady flow from the United Kingdom and Israel, while a timid growth is observed from Germany. According to Mr. Angelidis, winter or year-round tourism should be a matter for everyone, not just hotel units. It requires the operation of all businesses, restaurants, museums and the organization of events during the winter period, so that the season becomes more interesting. Mr. Angelidis concluded that Cyprus has a lot to offer in the field of tourism and that the hotel and tourism industry can contribute significantly to the real economy of the country.
