Pasiourtidis: Questions Raised About the Way the Legal Service Operated in the Syliouris-Tzovanni Case

AKEL MP Andreas Pasiourtidis raised questions about the way the legal service operated during the trial in the Syliouris – Tzovanni case, questioning whether the press conference was held to dispel impressions. He stressed that the legal service's admission of being unable to protect witnesses is generally serious, as the administration of justice begins and ends in the courtroom, but also with the taking of testimonies. Mr. Pasiourtidis reiterated that two decisions (majority and dissenting) refer to the absence of essential witnesses without justification, and questioned why those responsible for the golden passports scandal were not examined beyond the four who were brought to court. He expressed the view that the legal service should have announced the appeal and that the remaining details should be discussed in court. He argued that for such a case, the statement should have been made by the heads of the legal service. Pasiourtidis's criticism focuses on the lack of transparency, the effectiveness of the legal service, and the need for a full investigation into the golden passports scandal.
