Cyprus: Minister to Present Study on Larnaca Marina Development

The Minister of Transport, Communications and Works, Alexis Vafeades, will present the results of the study by the Hellenic Fund for the development of the port and marina of Larnaca to the Larnaca Development Committee. The briefing will take place on Friday, February 20th, and will be followed by a discussion on the progress of the projects. The Mayor of Larnaca, Andreas Vyras, stated that the Minister will present the Prosperity Group's proposal for the revitalization of the project, the study by the Fund, and the available options, while also responding to the proposal for the creation of a team to monitor the timelines. The Municipality of Larnaca had expressed strong dissatisfaction with the delays in the delivery of the study by the Fund and the setting of clear timelines. In a letter to the Minister of Transport, the Municipality requested the examination of all parameters of the revitalization proposal by the Kition Consortium, as well as the presentation of clear timelines for the completion of the Fund's study and the public consultation. Furthermore, the Municipality proposed the creation of a working group with the participation of representatives from the Municipality and the Larnaca Provincial Self-Governing Authority, to monitor the implementation of the projects and address any deviations from the schedules in a timely manner. Mayor Vyras stressed that the approach to the meeting will be responsible, documented and collaborative, with the best interests of the city and its citizens in mind. The presentation of the Fund's study is expected to provide direction for the progress of the development projects of the port and marina of Larnaca, which are important development priorities for the city and Cyprus.
