Youth Organization of Cyprus Paralyzed: Three Board Members Resign – Dispute Among Officials at the Top of the Hierarchy

The Youth Organization of Cyprus (ONEK) is in a critical situation as three members of its board of directors have resigned due to serious internal problems and disagreements. The resignation of the vice-president, an appointed member, and the representative of NEDISY leads to a lack of quorum, making it difficult for the Organization to function. The problem is attributed to personal disputes between management officials, which have created a toxic climate. These disagreements began in May 2025 and have occupied board meetings, hindering productive work. Recent efforts to de-escalate the situation, with the participation of the Minister of Education and the Deputy Minister to the President, have not yielded results. An action by one side appears to have led to the resignation of the three members. The MP for DIKO, Pavlos Mylonas, had proposed two weeks ago the resignation of the entire board of directors due to the dysfunction of the Organization. NEDISY had also warned about the situation, emphasizing the need for immediate action to address the problems. The Minister of Education is aware of the situation and decisions regarding the future of ONEK are expected within the next few days. The lack of quorum and the disagreements jeopardize the smooth functioning of the Organization and the fulfillment of its role in supporting youth in Cyprus.
