EOA Paphos Intervenes After Reactions to Earthworks Between Konia and Anavargos

Following strong reactions from residents, the Paphos Provincial Self-Governing Authority (EOA) intervened in earthworks taking place between Konia and Anavargos. Residents are protesting the alteration of the natural environment and the legality of the works, demanding their immediate cessation. The president of the EOA Paphos, Charalambos Pittokopitis, confirmed that the issue has come to the attention of the organization and that measures have been taken to suspend the works. Mr. Pittokopitis stated that the works are being carried out on a plot on the border of Anavargos with Armou and the owner of the plot has been summoned to appear before the EOA to provide explanations. An investigation is underway to determine whether the works required permits, which have not been secured. In case of illegality, legal proceedings will be initiated. The owner of the plot claims that the works concern minor leveling for tree planting, however the authorities are investigating whether these fall into activities that require a permit. A technical engineer from the EOA conducted an on-site inspection and is expected to submit a relevant report. The EOA Paphos is committed to enforcing the law and fully investigating the case, taking into account the concerns of residents and ensuring the legality of the works. The case remains under investigation and clear answers are expected from the competent authorities.
