Andreas Apostolou Intervenes on Pediatric Oncology: Proposal for Permanent Committee with Parents and Doctors

Andreas Apostolou, a Member of Parliament for Larnaca, intervened regarding issues raised at the Pediatric Oncology Clinic of Makarios Hospital following complaints from parents about conditions affecting children's care. He submitted a question to the Minister of Health requesting information on renovation work, safety measures, and whether these have been agreed upon by doctors and parent representatives. Mr. Apostolou had already spoken with the Minister and the Parents' Association, expressing confidence that the issue will receive due attention, knowing the Minister’s sensitivity to children’s issues. The complaints concern noise pollution, dust falling from false ceilings, water leaks, and water supply problems, which are particularly worrying given that the patients are immunocompromised. Strict adherence to protection protocols is considered an obvious duty of the State. Mr. Apostolou proposes the establishment of a permanent monitoring committee with the participation of representatives of parents and associations, attending physicians, the contractor, the OKYpY (Cyprus Organisation of State Health Services), and the Ministry of Health. The committee's purpose will be to continuously update all stakeholders, exchange views, promptly address problems, and constantly evaluate protection measures. The MP assured that he will closely monitor the issue until a safe environment for children is ensured, reiterating that the safety of children is non-negotiable and emphasizing the importance of the peace of mind, safety, and dignity of the young patients and their families.
