Panic in the Occupied Territories: Suspected Foot-and-Mouth Disease Cases

Panic has gripped the occupied territories following suspected cases of foot-and-mouth disease in animals. A meeting was held at the “Ministry of Agriculture” to take immediate measures to limit the disease. According to the Turkish Cypriot press, the cases were detected in the village of Lapathos and samples were sent to Turkey for further analysis. As an initial measure, the livestock farm was quarantined and vaccines are expected from Turkey. The Communal Democracy Party (TDP) expressed its concern about the spread of the disease and its negative impact on livestock farming and agriculture.
