Pakistan, Turkey, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia Propose Plan for Hormuz
Pakistan hosted talks with representatives from Turkey, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia to mediate an end to the war in Iran. Initial discussions focused on proposals to reopen the Strait of Hormuz for shipping, given the rising tensions in the region and the surge in oil prices. The participating countries have submitted proposals to the US regarding the management of maritime traffic and the safe passage of ships through the Strait. One proposal includes the creation of a consortium, with potential participation from Pakistan, to manage oil flows and charge fees similar to those of the Suez Canal. The talks are taking place at a critical time, as Iran threatens retaliation in the event of a ground attack by the US.
