Child Dies from Influenza A – Transferred from Limassol to Makarios Hospital with Severe Symptoms

A four-year-old child died today at Makarios Hospital from Influenza A. The child was initially hospitalized at Limassol General Hospital but was transferred to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Makarios due to the severity of their condition, where they passed away. According to doctors, the cause of death was multi-organ failure resulting from the Influenza A virus. The spokesperson for the Cyprus Public Health Service (OKYpY), Charalambos Charilaou, confirmed the child's death, noting that they were intubated and in critical condition upon arrival at Makarios. Since December, 13 other people have died from Influenza A, the majority of whom were elderly. The child's death highlights the seriousness of Influenza A and the need for preventative measures, especially for vulnerable populations.
