February 9th has been declared World Greek Language Day by UNESCO, confirming the global role of the language as a foundation of philosophy, science, and democracy, as emphasized by the Minister of Education, Religious Affairs, and Sports, Sofia Zacharaki. This recognition is a historic moment for the 3,000-year history of the Greek language, acknowledging its unique contribution to the world's cultural heritage. The Minister stressed that the Greek language is not merely a monument of the past, but a living tool for thought and creation that unites generations and cultures. She highlighted its ability to renew and evolve, actively participating in the digital world and the age of artificial intelligence, serving as a starting point and guide for ideals, self-awareness, and freedom. The Minister of National Defense, Nikos Dendias, pointed out that the Greek language is one of the identity elements of Modern Hellenism, along with religion and traditions. He emphasized that the language is proof of the historical continuity of the Nation, incorporating into its words significant figures and events of Greek history, from Homer and Plato to the struggles of '21 and modern poets. Furthermore, foreign writers and intellectuals from Italy and Spain expressed their admiration for the Greek language, recognizing its unique contribution to the world's intellectual heritage and the unwavering classical education that distinguishes it. They emphasized that the Greek language is a source of inspiration and endless interest.
