Special Needs School Assistants Grant Time to Ministry of Education Regarding Pay

School Assistants for Children with Disabilities, through the SEK and PEO trade unions, announced that they are giving the Ministry of Education time to resolve issues regarding their pay. If there is no substantial discussion and agreement by March 2026, they will proceed with strike measures. The problems faced by the assistants include being assigned tasks beyond their responsibilities, being assigned more than one child per assistant (2-5), inadequate training, and increased responsibility for children with special needs. Additionally, they report problems related to part-time employment, inconsistencies in treatment depending on the School Board, difficulties faced by assistants who are parents of people with disabilities, and low wages in relation to their working hours.
