Renowned Constitutional Law Expert Antonis Manitakis Passes Away

Antonis Manitakis, Emeritus Professor of Law at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and former Minister, passed away at the age of 82. He had been hospitalized in intensive care for the past few days. The news of his death was announced by the university authorities of AUTH and the Dean's Office of the Law School, who expressed their deep sorrow for the loss of the distinguished university professor. The Law School of AUTH declared a two-day mourning period and suspended all classes, honoring the memory of Antonis Manitakis. The farewell will be held in a private family circle, however, colleagues, students, and friends will have the opportunity to honor him tomorrow, Thursday, in Room 112 of the Law School. Antonis Manitakis was born in Thessaloniki in 1944 and studied Law at the Aristotle University. He received a doctorate in law from the University of Brussels and was elected professor at the Law School of AUTH in 1982. He served as Dean of the School of Law and Economic Sciences and as a visiting professor at various universities abroad. Manitakis also served as Deputy President of the National Council for Radio and Television and as President and Vice-President of the National Commission for Human Rights. He was the founder and director of the website of the "Manesis" Group, a scientific journal. His literary work includes 16 monographs and 130 studies. He served as interim Minister of Interior and later as Minister of Administrative Reform and E-Governance.
