Appeal Court Increases Sentence in Large-Scale Cannabis Trafficking Case

The Cyprus Court of Appeal has increased the sentence in a large-scale cannabis import and trafficking case. The foreign national had been sentenced to 9 years in prison for import and possession with intent to supply, with no penalty imposed for simple possession. The Court of Appeal ruled that the original sentence was insufficient, considering the seriousness of the offenses and the need for deterrence. The case involved a methodical plan to import 8 kilograms of cannabis from the United States, with the assistance of a former employee of the company designated as the recipient. The former employee was convicted of forgery.
