Over 8,000 Vehicles with Faulty Airbags Not Yet Recalled – TOM Reports

According to the Department of Road Transport (TOM), 8,487 vehicles with faulty airbags have not been recalled as of yet, despite ongoing efforts. The recall concerns vehicles identified as defective within 2025. TOM has suspended the certificate of roadworthiness for 5,271 vehicles, while the replacement process is underway or a deadline has been set for another 3,216. In parallel, TOM announced that 398,000 driving licenses have been renewed for 2026, compared to 412,000 last year. The deadline for license renewal is March 11, 2026. The Department urges vehicle owners who have not responded to the recalls to proceed with the replacement of the defective airbags immediately. TOM emphasizes the importance of road safety and recalls the initial recommendation not to use vehicles subject to recall until the airbag is replaced. The recall is considered an essential measure to prevent serious accidents and protect the lives of drivers, passengers, and pedestrians. The Department of Road Transport calls on companies to speed up the supply of spare parts and customer service, while also reminding the need for immediate replacement of defective airbags by vehicle owners.
