The President assured that the issues of the enclaved, and especially the Maronites, are high on the agenda of his meetings with the United Nations Secretary-General and the Turkish Cypriot leader. He expressed hope for positive responses at the next meeting with Mr. Erhurman on February 24. President Christodoulides emphasized the contribution of the Maronite community to Cyprus and the continuous cooperation between the community and the Government. He stressed the Government's commitment to improving the quality of life of the Maronites, both in the free areas and in the occupied areas. He referred to the situation of the 14 Maronite villages under Turkish occupation and reiterated the Government's position on the resolution of the Cyprus issue and the reunification of Cyprus, until then he pledged to continue to care for the enclaved.
