Half of Hotels Still Unlicensed in Cyprus, Accountability Concerns Raised

The government is making progress in licensing hotels, however, only 45% of hotel units have operating licenses, compared to 5%-6% in 2023. It remains concerning that over 50% of hotels have not even applied for a license, possibly due to building irregularities or other issues. The referral of the relevant law highlighted the institutional limits of "easy solutions". The question of accountability in the event of a serious incident in an unlicensed hotel is raised.
