Ustel: Practices of Greek Cypriot Leadership 'Incompatible with Honesty' – Calls for Recognition of Turkish Cypriot 'Inherent Rights' for Cyprus Solution

The 'prime minister' of the Turkish Cypriot side, Unal Ustel, criticized the practices of the Greek Cypriot leadership, describing them as 'incompatible with honesty' regarding political equality. He argued that a solution to the Cyprus issue is only possible with the recognition of the 'inherent rights' of Turkish Cypriots. Ustel responded to statements made by President Christodoulides, accusing the Greek Cypriot side of the failure of negotiations at Crans-Montana in 2017. He claimed that the Greek Cypriot side seeks to keep nationalist reflexes alive and that its reference to UN resolutions is hypocritical, as it does not recognize the political equality of Turkish Cypriots. He stressed that Turkey and the Turkish Cypriot side are committed to dialogue for a fair solution, but will not accept any imposition that would render Turkish Cypriots a minority group.
