Ustel: Actions of Greek Cypriot Leadership 'Incompatible with Sincerity' Regarding Political Equality

The 'prime minister' of the occupied territories, Unal Ustel, accused the Greek Cypriot leadership of practices 'incompatible with sincerity' regarding political equality, arguing that a solution to the Cyprus issue is only possible with the recognition of the rights of Turkish Cypriots. Mr. Ustel responded to statements by President Christodoulides, reiterating that the failure of the negotiations in Crans-Montana was due to the Greek Cypriot mentality. He claimed that the Greek Cypriot side excluded the possibility of compromise with demands for zero troops and zero guarantees. Mr. Ustel called on the Greek Cypriot leadership to recognize the sovereign equality of Turkish Cypriots and abandon 'rhetoric focused on elections'.
