Ukraine War: Nearly 2 Million Casualties Among Both Sides' Armies

The war in Ukraine has resulted in nearly 2 million casualties among the Russian and Ukrainian armies – including dead, wounded, and missing – according to an analysis by a US think tank (CSIS). Russia has suffered the heaviest losses, with 325,000 dead out of a total of 1.2 million casualties. Ukrainian losses are estimated at 600,000 casualties, with 100,000 to 140,000 dead. CSIS estimates that the total number of casualties could reach 2 million by spring 2026. Meanwhile, the number of civilian casualties remains high, with the UN reporting nearly 15,000 deaths and 40,600 injuries since the start of the war. However, the actual number of casualties is likely much higher.
