Outrage in Karava Municipality: 125-Year-Old Historical Mansion Demolished

The Municipality of Karava expresses strong outrage and indignation over the systematic demolition of historical buildings in the occupied town. Recently, the mansion of former mayor Grigoris Chatzilambrou, a 125-year-old building, was demolished, as well as other historical buildings such as the house of the Poyiatzis family and the mansion of Lefteris Chatzistefanou. The Municipality denounces this as a deliberate attempt to alter the historical presence of the rightful residents and a violation of international law and cultural protection. Even Turkish Cypriot residents of the area are reacting to these destructive actions. The Municipality calls on the United Nations, the European Union and other international organizations to intervene to stop the destruction of the historical heritage.
