Christodoulides-Erhurman Meeting Concludes

The meeting between the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, and the Turkish Cypriot leader, Tufan Erhurman, concluded shortly after 12:30 PM, in the presence of the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General, Khassim Diagne. President Christodoulides stated that he attended the meeting with the aim of restarting the negotiation process, expressing his readiness for an “honest dialogue” from where it was interrupted in 2017. He emphasized his desire for substantial discussion and his preparation for an expanded meeting within the next week. He recalled the joint announcement of December, which referred to the resolutions of the Security Council, and reiterated the pursuit of a solution based on these. At the same time, he criticized the previous period due to Ersin Tatar's position in favor of a two-state solution, which he characterized as unacceptable by the international community.
