Taxi Drivers' Island-Wide Mobilization Culminates in Petition Delivery

Taxi drivers from across Cyprus held an island-wide mobilization protesting the issue of unlicensed taxi services (piracy) in their industry. The mobilization culminated in the delivery of petitions to the House of Representatives and the Presidential Palace. Drivers expressed strong disappointment with the absence of the Minister of Transport, Alexis Vafeades, from the Ministry during their protest, believing this indicated a lack of seriousness from the Ministry. They accused the Ministry of failing to find solutions to the piracy problem and of not taking the needs of the industry seriously. Members of the Parliamentary Transport Committee stated that the issue of piracy is already under consideration and that there is a plan for overall reform, however, taxi drivers insist on the need for immediate action and substantial solutions.
