Cyprus Health Organization: Emergency Rooms Not for Flu A Testing

The Cyprus Organization of State Health Services (OKYpY) announced that Accident and Emergency (A&E) departments of public hospitals are not intended for the examination of Flu A cases. Spokesperson Charalambos Charilaou emphasized that the mission of A&E departments is to address immediate and life-threatening situations, not to manage cases with mild symptoms. Mr. Charilaou urges citizens to stop visiting A&E for flu testing, as this burdens the service of truly urgent cases. He notes that flu testing can be done with diagnostic tests available at pharmacies and, in case of symptoms, recommends seeking guidance from a personal physician. OKYpY stresses that A&E departments do not replace personal doctors and that medical staff work intensively to manage serious cases. The announcement concludes with a call for responsible use of health services to ensure prompt service to patients in genuine need of urgent care.
