Trade Unions Await Decisions from Government After Meeting at the Presidential Palace

Trade unions are awaiting decisions from the Government following their meeting with President Christodoulides, stating that their next steps will depend on these decisions. The meeting discussed issues such as the minimum wage, collective bargaining agreements, the employment of workers from third countries, the 'Ergani 2' system and pension reform. The trade unions stressed the need for development to translate into an improvement in the living standards of workers and called for the hourly payment of the minimum wage and support for collective bargaining agreements. They also referred to the need to revise the strategy for the employment of workers from third countries. On the issue of pension reform, the trade unions rejected the prospect of piecemeal changes and called for a comprehensive roadmap with a clear timetable. They expressed their willingness to implement it gradually, provided that pension rights are not reduced.
