US Advises Against Travel to Cyprus, Egypt, and Turkey

The University of Texas System has issued guidance on international travel to enhance the safety of staff and students amid changing geopolitical and security conditions. The guidance provides for stricter evaluation and approval before any travel abroad. As an example, the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) now requires approval from both the International Oversight Committee (IOC) and the President of the institution for travel to countries such as Egypt, Turkey, and Cyprus. It is recommended to avoid travel to these areas unless there is a substantial professional or research need. This decision follows previous travel restrictions to countries in the Middle East and Europe. The new process at UTSA provides that each exception request will be examined based on the existence of a 'substantial professional or research need'.
