Greece-Israel Defense Architecture: 'Shields of Achilles and David' Proposal

A new study by the Gemunder Center for Defense and Strategy at JINSA proposes an ambitious defense doctrine between Greece and Israel, called 'The Shields of Achilles and David.' The proposal is based on the Greek 'Achilles Shield' program, a ten-year arms program worth $27 billion, aiming to create a multi-layered defense covering ballistic protection, drone countermeasures, anti-ship capabilities, and anti-submarine protection. The study emphasizes the importance of Israeli technological assistance and the interconnection of sensors and interception systems. The Eastern Mediterranean is considered an increasingly contested region due to Turkish violations, Russian activity, and the presence of Iran. The study calls on the US to strengthen cooperation and its presence in the region.
