UN Urges Russia to Stop Strikes on Ukraine's Energy Infrastructure

The UN has urged Russia to immediately stop its strikes on Ukraine's energy infrastructure, which are leaving hundreds of thousands of civilians without power and heating. The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights denounces that these strikes violate international humanitarian law. Ukraine is facing its harshest winter in four years of war, with temperatures close to -20 degrees Celsius. The consequences of the strikes are affecting access to basic services, such as electricity, heating and medical care. The UN recalls that targeting non-military infrastructure is prohibited by international law and calls on Russia to immediately stop the strikes. Moscow denies targeting civilians, however thousands of people have lost their lives since the start of the Russian invasion.
